The main queue line entrance to Bluey the Ride: Here Come the Grannies! is located off to the right from the entrance to CBeebies Land, marked by the Heeler family’s house – if you look through the window, you may just spot some familiar faces! An accessible entrance with level-access can be found by continuing up past the coaster, at the far side of the station building.
The main queue line features a number of photo opportunities and variety of play equipment in order to keep little ones entertained whilst waiting to ride. These incorporate nods to Bluey episodes such as Keepy Uppy and Fairies.
Upon reaching the station building, guests are batched into one of 14 rows. Externally the station is partially themed as a garden shed. Inside the walls feature themed decals, as well as some 3D props which include Chattermax, alongside coloured festoon lighting overhead.
At the front of the train, themed to a toy car, are Bluey and Bingo, dressed as the Grannies Janet and Rita. Upon dispatch, the train ascends the tyre-driven lift hill, before curving to the right and traversing the broadly figure of eight layout incorporating gentle dips and turns around Bluey’s backyard, dodging the washing line as they go.
During the ride, guests will be able to spot Dad (Bandit) with his lawnmower and hosepipe, Mum (Chilli) raking leaves that have fallen from the large tree, and cousin Muffin dressed as her Grouchy Granny alter ego Gladys on board her mobility scooter. Audio of the mischief being caused by Janet and Rita as the train navigates the track can be heard by guests both on and off ride, with this changing with each ride.
After completing the layout for the first time, the train continues through the station for a second lap of mischief-making. Once the train comes to a stop after returning from its second lap, guests disembark from the right-hand side with the exit route taking guests across a bridge themed to a treehouse, which provides views across the entire ride area. On-ride photos can be purchased from a kiosk across from where guests exit back into CBeebies Land.
Following an announcement by the Resort in the week before Christmas of their plans to open a new junior coaster in CBeebies Land in 2026, the full planning application was published in January 2025 which referred to the development as Project Sunshine.
The plans revealed that the new coaster would replace Postman Pat Parcel Post, which closed in June 2025 and was fully removed over the course of the summer months. To accommodate the new coaster, Get Set Go Treetop Adventure also temporarily closed in order for its track to be rerouted, resulting in a shortening of the layout.
In September 2025, Alton Towers confirmed the rumours that the ride would be the world’s first Bluey-themed rollercoaster.
Construction progressed over the remainder of the 2025 season, with the supports and track for the coaster itself being installed during the period that the theme park was open for the Resort’s Christmas event.
In January 2026, the Resort confirmed the name of the coaster as Bluey the Ride: Here Come the Grannies! alongside releasing some initial details about the ride experience.
In late February 2026, Alton Towers announced that the coaster would open on Saturday 28th March, two weeks after the start of the main 2026 season on 14th March.
Plans
Plans for a new junior coaster in CBeebies Land, codenamed Project Sunshine, were first published in January 2025 and then revised in April 2025 to reduce the number of lost trees.
Construction
Construction of Bluey the Ride: Here Come the Grannies! commenced in the latter half of 2025, ready for Grannies to arrive at the Resort for the 2026 season.
