Construction of Bluey the Ride commenced in the latter half of 2025, starting with the rerouting of Get Set Go Tree Top Adventure and removal of Postman Pat Parcel Post, ready for Grannies to arrive at Alton Towers for the 2026 season.
8th June 2025
Construction of Bluey the Ride started when walls were erected around the recently closed Postman Pat Parcel Post and track for Get Set Go Tree Top Adventure was cut short. UK manufacturer Garmendale were the company responsible for providing the new track which completed a shorter route without passing over the coaster.
27th September 2025
Since our last update, Bluey had now been officially announced as the theme of the new junior coaster. The majority of Postman Pat Parcel Post had been demolished, just leaving the concrete track at the end of the site where the future queue line will be installed. Footers and foundations for the coaster and associated structures were in the process of being poured.
10th October 2025
Work continued on the coaster’s footers which were nearing completion. The metal framework for the station building was added, along with continued infrastructure work taking place like drainage installation.
15th November 2025
Cladding started to be attached to the exterior of the station building structure, and what appeared to be Bluey’s house began to rise at the end of the site which would be one of the first things guests see when approaching the ride.
29th November 2025
On completion of the various footers and foundations, vertical construction commenced of the Zierer coaster track and supports in two shades of green. At the time of the update, the team had installed the station and lift hill track – the highest point of the ride. The cladding and roofing on the station building was nearing completion, and Bluey’s house at the end of the site continued to progress.
7th December 2025
The coaster track was completed in early December 2025 confirming a more substantial layout compared to what the original plans indicated.
23rd December 2025
Following completion of the track layout, work continued on the station building, with the exterior painted blue, and the exit bridge installed which will cross over the track before descending down into the plaza by Little Explorers Lunch Box. At the other end of the site, Bluey’s house continued to progress, with the first theming element installed – a decorative chimney on the roof.
14th February 2026
As the theme park reopened for February half term, it was the first opportunity to see Bluey the Ride: Here Come the Grannies! with the majority of the construction walls down. With the main structural work appearing complete and the train on the track, the next focus was to complete the queue line and theming around the area. Alton Towers shared a first look at the front of the coaster train that featured an adorable Bluey and Bingo, dressed as Janet and Rita, behind the wheel. The last photo shows two patches of concrete that annual passholders had an opportunity to place their hands into, making their mark on the new coaster project forever before it was covered up with artificial grass.
19th February 2026
Thursday 19th February 2026 saw Bluey the Ride: Here Come The Grannies! have its first test run. This revealed that the ride would feature a massive 14 row train, along with an accessible row making it even easier for wheelchair users to get in and out of the train. Thank you to Sam from Coastertog for the photos.
22nd February 2026
Bluey the Ride: Here Come The Grannies! continued to test throughout the remainder of the February half term event, providing families with a sneak peak at the mischief Bluey and Bingo, dressed as Janet and Rita, would be getting up to in their backyard.
8th March 2026
With the theme park open prior to the start of the main season for a weekend of buy-out days, this provided the chance to see the progress made on the theming for Bluey the Ride: Here Come the Grannies! since February half term. With all construction walls down, it was possible to now get a proper look at the Heeler family’s house, located next to the queue line entrance along with signage for the ride. Within the queue line itself, theming and play equipment was also in the process of being installed, along with canopies to provide cover in some areas. Theming had also been installed in the ride area, including a large tree and washing line, to transform it into Bluey’s backyard. No testing was observed during this visit, with the train at a stand in the station building, to which themed decals had been applied to both the exterior and interior.
