It has been announced that Bluey the Ride: Here Come the Grannies! will open at Alton Towers Resort on Saturday 28th March.
To mark the announcement, Alton Towers unveiled a giant portrait of Bluey, dressed as her granny alter ego Janet, on the theme park’s front lawns. The artwork, which measures 20 by 15 metres and took 18 hours to complete, is made from approximately 11,494 cans of beans in reference to an iconic moment from the fan-favourite “Grannies” episode of the popular animated TV show.
Upon the new junior coaster opening in CBeebies Land on 28th March, guests can expect to get up to some grannies-themed mischief through Bluey’s backyard, whisking over gentle dips, around turns, and through colourful trees, flowers, and playful surprises. There will also be the opportunity to spot Bluey’s House in the interactive queue, take selfies, and enjoy fun play activities before riding.
Howard Ebison, Vice President at Alton Towers Resort, said:
“Bluey the Ride: Here Come the Grannies! is all about celebrating energy, play and those everyday moments families love about the show. The ‘Grannies’ episode is a firm favourite with our guests, so creating a giant Bluey made from more than 11,000 bean cans felt like the perfect way to mark the countdown to opening day. It’s playful, unexpected and unmistakably Bluey – and we can’t wait to welcome families from March 28 to experience the world’s first Bluey coaster right here at Alton Towers Resort.”
Natasha Spence, Events Director, Live Entertainment at BBC Studios, said:
“‘Grannies’ is an iconic episode of Bluey. We also know that fans associate beans with Bluey and Bingo dressing up as Janet and Rita. Seeing this fantastic on-screen detail brought to life in such an imaginative way, truly celebrates the countdown to the opening of Bluey the Ride: Here Come the Grannies! at CBeebies Land at Alton Towers Resort. We are delighted to be working with the team at Alton Towers to create the world’s first Bluey coaster for families across the UK to enjoy this spring Bluey the Ride: Here Come the Grannies! is specifically designed for pre-schoolers and young families who are taken on a journey through Bluey’s Backyard.”
Alongside the new coaster and existing Bluey experiences, including the meet-and-greet with Mum (Chilli), Dad (Bandit), Bluey and Bingo and live stage show within Big Fun Showtime, Alton Towers will also introduce additional Bluey-themed hotel rooms at the CBeebies Land Hotel. This follows on from the first Bluey rooms and suites opening at the hotel in 2024.
Today’s announcement follows the reveal in December 2024 that a new junior coaster was planned for CBeebies Land, which was then confirmed to be themed to Bluey last September, before the name Bluey the Ride: Here Come the Grannies! was announced in January. Recent weeks have seen the coaster begin testing, with the train design seeing Bluey and her younger sister Bingo riding in the front row dressed as The Grannies, Janet and Rita. While we would assume that the hope was for the ride to open at the start of the 2026 season on 14th March, with elements such as the theming and queue line still to be completed, it seems a couple of additional weeks are required to complete the finishing touches.
