Alton Towers’ most recent theme park attraction, Th13teen, has been unavailable in recent days as a technical problem has meant that the ride has been closed. The ride, which is the worlds first to use new freefall drop technology from Swiss manufacturer Intamin, was initially plagued with reliability troubles upon opening in the spring of 2010 – but these were, for the most part, resolved come last summer, and the ride has been fairly reliable ever since.

The lack of Th13teen during the school half term holiday will have been seen as a major blow to families visiting the theme park, especially given the rides publicity in resort  marketing. The rollercoaster was into its third consecutive day of downtime, before Alton Towers announced that the ride would re-open on Thursday, 2nd June. Rumours suggest that there have been cranes over the freefall drop section, although we are unable to confirm these at this time.

UPDATE: 3.6.11:
Th13teen continued to have long periods of downtime on Thursday, 2nd June and it is unknown whether the ride will be available on 4.6.11.

UPDATE: 6.6.11
