Alton Towers Resort has, in a surprise move, withdrawn the popular Waterpark Annual Pass from sale with immediate effect.

Costing £75 per person (or £60pp if bought as a family), the pass allowed 12 months unlimited entry to the Waterpark along with a range of other perks including 20% off at the Waterpark’s food and retail outlets. The withdrawal of the annual pass is a permanent removal, with no plans to refresh or revamp the pass. It is believed that those who currently hold passes will be able to renew them when they expire, however the window for renewal will be reduced to just 2 weeks.

TowersTimes understands the reasoning behind the withdrawal of the pass is to try and reduce demand on the Waterpark which is frequently hitting capacity. The introduction of the Merlin VIP Annual Pass, and the construction of the Enchanted Village for 2015, will only see demand for the Waterpark increase meaning the Resort has needed to consider ways of effectively managing demand for the attraction.

The removal of the pass will no doubt disappoint local residents, many of whom are Waterpark Annual Pass holders.
