During Scarefest 2015 the Underworld rose once again at Alton Towers Resort for Nox Infernus. The Night of Fire. Guests could either join ‘The Cult’ or submit to the end of this world as we knew it in this scare zone.

Fact File

  • Location: Dark Forest
  • Scare Rating: 4 Pumpkins
  • Opening Year: 2015
  • Closing Year: 2015

In a corner of Dark Forest the spirits of young females already besieged by the area’s mysterious forces roamed freely, whilst wraiths and cult leaders worked to claim your soul. It seemed the powers behind TH13TEEN grew stronger at this time of year.

The free-flowing scare zone utilised the area underneath Rita‘s launch, as well as the plaza around Rita and TH13TEEN’s queue line entrances. A ‘safe route’ was provided for guests who wished to avoid the scare zone and its inhabitants.

Nox Infernus was one of two new scare zones for Scarefest 2015, debuting alongside Dark Apocalypse over in Forbidden Valley.

Both scare zones adopted a different format to those which had come before at the Resort, being free-flowing in nature. Previously Zombies! Scare Zone and Scary Tales had been walkthroughs in segregated parts of the theme park, through which guests were batched.

However, following the event, the powers of the Dark Forest appeared to settle once again, with Nox Infernus not returning in 2016. It was effectively replaced by Freak Show, a scare zone located on the pathway between Adventure Land and X-Sector.
