Dark Apocalypse saw a deadly virus spread across Forbidden Valley during Scarefest 2015 and 2016, creating the perfect environment for a scare zone.

Fact File

  • Location: Forbidden Vallery
  • Scare Rating: 4 Pumpkins
  • Opening Year: 2015
  • Closing Year: 2016

The infected showed signs of highly aggressive behaviour and rapid physical decomposition. Although Phalanx Control quarantined the area, a recent security breach questioned their ability to contain the virus and keep society safe. Guests’ safety could not be guaranteed as they navigate their way across Forbidden Valley and through the horde.

The free-flowing scare zone utilised the area outside of Nemesis: Sub Terra and the pathway towards Nemesis. Guests who wished to avoid the scare zone and its inhabitants could use the lower path through Forbidden Valley, which acted as a ‘safe route’.

Dark Apocalypse was one of two new scare zones for Scarefest 2015, debuting alongside Nox Infernus over in Dark Forest.

Both scare zones adopted a different format to those which had come before at the Resort, being free-flowing in nature. Previously Zombies! Scare Zone and Scary Tales had been walkthroughs in segregated parts of the theme park, through which guests were batched.

Come Scarefest 2017, it was evident that the virus had been successfully contained, with Dark Apocalypse not returning for third year.
