Alton Towers Resort will re-open the gates to the theme park on Saturday 4th July following the UK government announcement that the lockdown measures will be eased.

The Theme Park will re-open with the majority of its outdoor rides and attractions in operation however some indoor attractions, including The Alton Towers Dungeon, will remain closed until further notice. Due to social distancing requirements, there will be restrictions on the number of guests able to visit the Resort each day with all guests being required to pre-book their entry online in advance of their visit.

Along with the requirement to pre-book, the Resort have also implemented a range of other measures to help guests safely enjoy their day. These include:

  • Temperature checks
  • Enhanced cleaning, hygiene stations, and hand sanitiser at key locations throughout the Resort.
  • Mandatory face coverings for all guests over the age of 6 on Nemesis, Galactica, Oblivion, The Smiler, Wicker Man, Rita, TH13TEEN, Enterprise, Blade, Runaway Mine Train, and Marauder’s Mayhem.
  • Additional personal protective equipment for all staff.
  • Social distancing markers across the resort to help aid guests with social distancing.

There may also be some restrictions on indoor shops and restaurants with some outlets unavailable or operating at a reduced capacity. New menu options will be introduced across many food outlets to offer “Grab & go” options which guests can then enjoy within the grounds.

To help ensure staff have enough time to complete the extra procedures required, Early Ride Time will not be available when the Theme Park re-opens. Fastrack will also not be in operation during the initial re-opening period with the Resort saying they will provide a further update on this later in the season.

The Resort’s hotels will also be re-opening to guests (with the exception of the Stargazing Pods), although this will be at a reduced capacity. Guests staying on site will not need to pre-book their Theme Park entry. Extraordinary Golf is also expected to re-open, however the Alton Towers Water Park and Alton Towers Spa will remain closed as these are not yet permitted to open.

This long-awaited re-opening of the Theme Park follows the successful re-opening of The Gardens on June 6th. Speaking about the Theme Park re-opening, Emma Catterall, Divisional Director at Alton Towers Resort, said:

“It is fantastic that we can now confirm that our Theme Park and Accommodation will reopen from 4th July. We can’t wait to get back to doing what we do best, and we’re working hard to make sure that we’re implementing the new hygiene and distancing measures in a way that will still allow our guests to enjoy a memorable, fun visit to Alton Towers Resort.”

At the time of writing, tickets for the opening weekend on 4th/5th July had already sold out indicating that guests are keen to return to the Resort.
