In 2002, Alton Towers took the decision to expand upon the Halloween Spooktacular event with a major new attraction. Lynton V Harris of Sudden Impact! was brought in to install an extensive horror maze walkthrough in the Towers themselves, known as Terror of the Towers. In a step away from the family feel of previous years, this was a chilling attraction and not for the faint-hearted.

Roaming stilt characters were also introduced across the park, concentrated in the areas around Terror of the Towers and Towers Street.

For younger guests, the park introduced three Cadbury Spooky Zones: Eerie Edna’s Story Zone in Cred Street, the Trick or Treatsize Zone in Towers Street and the Monster Play Zone in Adventure Land. These handed out free tricks and treats to visitors.

In addition to Terror of the Towers, the event saw the addition of more theming around the park, especially in the area surrounding the Towers and Fountain Square. A lot of the park audio was also changed to an upbeat playlist including Ghostbusters, Monster Mash and other Halloween related music tracks.
