With another busy Bank Holiday Weekend almost upon us, Alton Towers Resort have announced details of a special event to celebrate the 5th Anniversary of CBeebies Land. Plus, Merlin Entertainments, Alton Towers Resort’s parent company, have confirmed leadership changes which will see a new Divisional Director for Alton Towers Resort. TowersTimes looks at all the details.

This weekend, Saturday 4th May to Monday 6th May, CBeebies Land will host a special ‘CBeebies Land Birthday Celebration’ which will see a whole host of fans’ favourite CBeebies characters as they come together for a special live performance at the end of each day. A huge, 3 metre tall birthday cake will greet guests as they enter the theme park and head towards CBeebies Land.

Young guests will also be able to take part in a free Birthday Treat trail. They will be able to collect a free activity card to complete as they explore CBeebies Land with all those who complete the trail receiving a birthday badge souvenir reward.

CBeebies Land first opened to the public on 24th May 2014 and brought to life a whole range of CBeebies characters and programmes including Tree Fu Tom, The Furchester Hotel, and new for 2019, ‘Peter Rabbit Hippity Hop’ and the ‘Teletubbies Big Band Live Show’.

In other developments at the Resort, Ian Crabbe, who has been Divisional Director at Alton Towers Resort since 2008, has been promoted to the role of Managing Director, Resort Theme Parks within Merlin Entertainments. His promotion is part of a wider shake up of Merlin’s senior management team which has seen Fiona Eastwood move to the role of Managing Director of Midway, and the creation of two new roles – Resort Development Director, and Midway Development Director which will be filled by Putnam Shin (currently Divisional Director, Midway Asia), and Hywel Mathias (currently Divisional Director, Midway London) respectively.

Speaking about these changes, Nick Varney, CEO of Merlin Entertainments, said:

“These changes will support the continued progress of Merlin as a global leader in location-based, family entertainment. Fiona and Ian have significant experience in attraction leadership, and both Hywel and Putnam bring with them to the newly created Development Director roles both operational experience and proven analytic and strategic capability. Their collective skills and insights will be invaluable as we seek to drive more immersive, IP-led experiences for guests and continue the strong momentum in our resort positioning strategy.”

As yet, there has been no confirmation regarding who will fill the Divisional Director Role at Alton Towers Resort, however a recruitment process is already underway.
