Alton Towers have announced the sale of one of the Corkscrew train's front carriage. The sale will be an auction style sale on the internet auction site eBay. Bidding starts Tuesday 2nd December at 10am for 10 days.
The classic double Corkscrew rollercoaster at Alton Towers has taken its final guests around it's track after 28 years of operating and with it, comes the last day of opening for the theme park in 2008.
The 2008 main open season has come to an end. Guests now have only one more opportunity to enjoy selected rides and attractions at Alton Towers this year as part of the Corkscrew leaving event, which will held on Sunday, 9th November from 10.00am to 4.00pm. The park however is open on 6,7 and 8th November for Hotel Guests and Annual Pass Holders only.
The biggest and most spectacular event of the season, Scarefest has begun! The park is host to new scary attractions, with some existing rides and shows spooked up for the event.
After last year's hair-raising experiment on Oblivion, Thrill Lab is set to return to the park later in the season and require guinea pigs on which to do their tests.
But hurry, as there are only a few days left for applications to participate.
TowersTimes can confirm that Alton Towers’ oldest rollercoaster resident is set to thrill its final guests at the end of the 2008 season. Built during the winter of 1979-80, the Corkscrew has been thrilling tens of millions of guests ever since. But now, amid modern rollercoaster technology, Corkscrew is soon to be relegated to the Alton Towers archive.
What better time to bring you news of the Alton Towers Scarefest then the witching hour exactly one month before the scares are due to begin. Preparations for the event are now well under way within the park and the TowersTimes Scarefest page is now online.
Over the past few days it seems the Black Hole has been vacating its tent in the X Sector. Since its closure in 2005 the coaster has sat in pieces in its former home, but has now begun to make an exit, prompting speculation about possible redevelopment of the tent which had housed it, since its introduction in 1984.
Just days after TowersTimes reported that Alton Towers were being taken to court over noise issues, it has come to light that Mr & Mrs Roper have withdrawn the prosecution.
Alton Towers are back in court over yet more complaints about noise coming from the Theme Park. The Resort had a noise abatement order placed upon them back in October 2005, but local residents Stephen and Suzanne Roper are taking further legal action against the park.
There have been over 40 casualties as a coach overturns and falls off a bridge near the River Churnet. The road is the main route used to get to and from Alton Towers from the South and East. The coach suffered horrific damage as it ploughed down into a neighbouring garden in bad weather. This accident follows a decade of calls for a new Eastern access road to be built provide a safer and quicker route to the park away from nearby villages.
Details of this year's winter festivities have been released today: "Escape to the fantabulous world of the Alton Towers Resort for the perfect Winter Break - there’s so much going on, the fun never stops!"
Alton Towers have stated that there will be a new land for children in 2009. This area will include a "fantabulous" new indoor playground, and the Resort in general will become home to new shows and new "street characters". It is currently believed that the new land will be a Cred Street refurbishment.
The Skyride will receive a "face lift" for 2009. TowersTimes believes that this will involve new gondolas of a slightly smaller size than that of the current stock. It remains unclear as to whether the stations will also be upgraded as the station that burnt down last October was rebuilt to it's previous state (albeit with a new lick of paint).

Haunted Attractions have revealed some detailed information from Alton Towers Resort regarding the Scarefest event which will run from 17th October – 2nd November 2008, with the park and majority of rides available right up until 9:00pm!

Another busy weekend in the park saw good news and bad news in equal amounts for guests. The good news is that the second of the resort's newly themed monorail trains has come online, however unfortunately it looks like guests will be paying a premium in order to see the new Mutiny Bay train as the theme park's entry price has gone up just one month into the season.
Alton Towers announces their Family Feedback Forum for 2008, following a similar style to the 2007 enthusiast Customer Council but aimed at gaining valuable family input to the park.
A newly refurbished monorail train took to the tracks at the Alton Towers Resort Saturday. The train takes a Splash Landings theme in line with the new golden resort branding. The design features wooden panels, pipes and lots of water as is to be found at the hotel. The other trains on the circuit will be given new themes over the course of the next two years.
After previously holding nun-themed Sound of Music events, the park has brought in Musical Ruth, a singing nun onboard a moving grand piano, to delight guests on Towers Street.
UPDATE: Unfortunately, it appears that Musical Ruth may have left the resort for other commitments now. Hopefully we'll be seeing similar quirky features at the park in the future.
The first week of the 2008 season at Alton Towers is nearly complete, and this years guests will get to try the brand new area, Mutiny Bay, with its pirate themed signature attraction, Battle Galleons. The park hopes that the area, along with a massive UK television advert campaign, can attract many more guests this year, during what is a slump in the wider economy.

The 2008 open season at Alton Towers is fast approaching, and Towers Times has learnt that the park will be imposing a ban on smoking throughout the park, in addition to the no-smoking policy already in place for queue lines.
March 15th brings the first day of the 2008 open season , along with the opening of Mutiny Bay, their brand new Pirate themed land. It also brings a World Record attempt, and you can take part!
Alton Towers once again is thrown back into silence as their second successful February opening comes to a close, and the short countdown to the start of the 2008 open season begins yet again. The main feature of the 2008 season is the brand new Pirate themed area Mutiny Bay which replaces the Medieval themed Merrie England.
The Alton Towers Halloween event, Scarefest, which made its debut at the close of the 2007 season has been confirmed to be making a return for the 2008 Halloween celebrations. The park has also confirmed the running dates for the popular event.
After some techincal issues with the ride, Nemesis has closed briefly, however Oblivion has opened as a replacement.
UPDATE: Nemesis has now reopened and due to the popularity of the event during the half term week, Hex will be opening this weekend to satisfy demand.
UPDATE 2: After closing again following Nemesis' reinstatement into the Hullabaloo lineup, Oblivion will be opening as an additional ride this weekend (23/24 Feb).
