2007 Season Comes to a Thrilling Conclusion
With the end of Adrenalin Week on Sunday, the 2007 season has come to a close. And so this also means the end of Merrie England, the area of the park which has supplied guests with more food and gaming experiences then they could possibly handle since as far back as 1994. Fortunately the area's main rides will survive its retheme in the new year, though the much maligned Splash Kart Challenge has already become the first confirmed casualty of the makeover, and it's not likely to be the last with the Flume's Remote Controlled Ducks also looking to have made an early exit from the park.
November 7th 2007 :
Battle Galleons Approved with Conditions
Planning permission for a new 'splash battle' attraction on the boating lake was granted Wednesday. The new ride, to be called "Battle Galleons", will feature interactive boats whereby riders can soak theming as well as other guests.
The attraction, themed around Pirates, will include mock stone work and wooden features to cover dryers and kiosks in keeping with nearby listed buildings.
The tea cups are expected to receive a make-over into "Marauders Mayhem" along with the rest of the present Merrie England area which will be renamed "Mutiny Bay". A mystery third ride will also be installed.
Battle Galleons will be built under strict conditions as a result of planning permission. Click 'more' for further details.
As the bell tolls midnight the haunting of Alton Towers comes to an untimely end. The close of the Scarefest also marks the end of the season for much of the park, with all of the children's rides and many family rides now closed for the rest of the 2007 season.
For the final week of the season only the most thrilling rides will be open, as part of the third and final Adrenalin Week of the year. For as little as £14 guest can enjoy eleven of the park's most hair-raising attractions between 12pm and 6pm, allowing ample time for a little night riding as well.
October 28th 2007 :
Fire in Forbidden Valley
At 7:35pm this evening a fire broke out in the roof of the Sky Ride station in the Forbidden Valley area of the park. Luckily there was no one in the area and the transportation ride had closed for the day several hours earlier. 8 fire crews were brought to the scene to put the blaze out, whilst guests were evacuated from the imediate area.
Click 'more' for an as-it-happened account of the story.
The park has now reopened as normal, with the exception of the Skyride, which will be closed until at least next season.

New for 2008 - Battle Galleons
The name of the main new attraction for the 2008 season was revealed Monday on a promotional poster near to the boating lake.
The lake has recently been drained to allow for maintenance and preparations for a new attraction after the Splash Karts were removed earlier this month.
Alton Towers' Scarefest has begun in style this weekend with the resort becoming home to all sorts of ghosts and ghouls. Check out the TowersTimes Scarefest section for a full run down of the myriad of new attractions that have opened for the event, as well as the official Scarefest map produced by the resort.
Keep you eyes peeled as more information and pictures will be added throughout the event!!

New Ride Plans Submitted to Council
Alton Towers have submitted a planning application to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council for the “installation of new boat ride and ancillary structures.” If approved, this proposal would replace the Splash Kart Challenge pay attraction on the lake alongside the Courtyard Tavern. It is almost certain that the new ride will be part of Project Penzance, a plan to modify the Merrie England area to what is likely to be a pirate theme for 2008.

Prestbury Deal Renews Access Road Fears
Local residents who have long been campaigning for a new road to ease traffic flow around Alton Towers fear a recent takeover of the theme park could threaten the multi-million transport scheme. They have spent almost 20 years fighting for the bypass which they believe will stop congestion on roads around the theme park.
Unfortunately the Rhythm and Rides event which was due to take place on 26th August has been cancelled. The ride close on this day will now no longer be 9:30pm, but 6pm as is usual for this time of year.
The long delayed YourDay souvenir system has finally gone live this week. Or at least it has in part. Guests can now enjoy a DVD of them on four out of the eight rides which the system is due to eventually cover.
Hot on the heals of announcing more details about the Scarefest, Alton Towers have revealed their plans for the 2007/2008 Winter Season.
The resort is set to build upon the success of last years closed season, by introducing several new attractions, including a festive walk-through and an ice slide.
Alton Towers have released more information concerning their Scarefest for Halloween this year. As well as confirming the return of attractions, such as the Terror of the Towers and Room 13, they have also announced several innovative new Halloween features, including Scare Rooms at the hotels and a Pumpkin Patch Playground for younger guests in the park.
The BBC has reported that Alton Towers has changed owners again for the second time in six months as part of a £622 million, in which Merlin has sold four of their UK attractions to entrepreneur Nick Laslau.
After the success of last years event, British Naturism has announced their second naturist weekend at Alton Towers. As with last years event the weekend is due to take place in Splash Landings and Cariba Creek in November, after the park has closed for the season.
A new show has now opened in the Cred Street Theatre for the summer season. ATTV: House of Fun, an interactive game show, opened on 30th June and is due to be performed three times a day until September 2nd.
July 13th 2007 :
Alton Towers Perform Weather Ritual
In their familiar quirky way Alton Towers have reputedly called in a Native American brave because they are fed up with the recent bad weather. The park asked Carlisle Antonio to perform a cloud-chasing ceremony to halt the spate of flash floods and storms.
Alton Towers have announced that they will be rounding off the Summer with a live music festival, featuring big name artists alongside the thrills and spills of the parks rides and attractions.
The event is to be held on Sunday 26th August and entrance will be for ticket holders only, with tickets starting from as little as £35.

The park have
released more
information about Chocolate Towers. It seems that this year they
will be turning the traditional Easter Egg hunt on its head, when the
chocolate comes looking for the guests. The park will also be home
to a chocolate circus during the event, where their pink Easter Bunnies will perform. Meanwhile the hotel will
have a
walk-thru rabbit warren.
Despite being due to open on open
day the Haunted Hollow has not yet officially opened to the
public. It seems that the hold up is due to some of the
interactive effects not yet being interactive. Hopefully the
attraction will be open soon, in the mean time it has not been
unusual for the park to leave certain entrances open allowing
guests a sneak peak of the new attraction. Hop over to our Haunted
Hollow page for a look at what is in store for guests...
