Originally this area was an
amusement
park behind the Towers with rides like bumper cars, carousel and a helter skelter
(pictured, right).
1981 the area became Talbot Street which celebrated Victoriana and included The Doll's
House and Space 1999 - Thunderbirds Exhibition and later a Wildlife Museum and Motor Museum
were also added.
When Talbot
Street opened in 1981 it also became home to many new rides and
attractions like Around The World In 80 Days, Doom & Sons, Fantastic
Fountain Theatre. There were also a wide range of shop and
restaurants including the Talbot Tea Shoppe, the Maison Talbot,
Raven's Den and The Talbot Restaurant , which at the time was the
biggest fast food restaurant in Europe!
In 1982 the
area at the end of Talbot Street became home to Adventureland 4-11 and in 1985 a whole new area was added by the flag tower, see bottom picture, and
in 1988 this became home to the famous Alton Mouse and Alton Beast.
By the end of
the 1992 season Adventure Land 4-11, Beast, Mouse, Doom & Sons and
the Fantastic Fountains were being removed ready to make way for a
new re-themed area.
In 1993 the Land Of Make Believe was born and saw the arrival of the Vintage Cars and a
Magic Show in the Talbot Theatre and a year later Around The World In 80 Days was re-themed into Toyland Tours. However this area was short lived and in 1997 it was changed again to it's present day theme of Cred Street.
