What could be
better then taking a nice relaxing paddle while enjoying a day
out in Alton Towers? Well nothing if you ask some bright spark back
in 1953. One of the first
things to open at Alton Towers after the war was a paddling pool area
in the Ingestre Lake.
In the mid 60s
this original pool was deemed to be unsatisfactory and so a new, more
hygienic, pool was laid on the far side of the lake alongside what
would become the Ingestre Centre. This pool
(pictured below) operated until the end of 1992, when Tussauds decided
to fill it in. It is now the site for a soccer game.
