Although it
only stayed at Alton Towers for three seasons, the Gravitron became
very popular .
Approximately
40 entered a big room, each person had a place to stand against the
wall. As the room started to spin at great speeds passengers were
forced against the walls and were moved up, so their feet left the
ground. It was not a ride which made you very dizzy, because once in
the room you couldn't tell you were spinning.
The Ride
opened in 1990 as a replacement for the Turbo Star and sat roughly
where the Oblivion station now stands. It closed in 1992 but was not
replaced until X Sector opened 6 years later. You can still ride Gravitron
at Pleasure Island Family Theme Park, Cleethorpes.
