Around the World in Eighty Days was the first of Alton Towers iconic
dark rides. Following the adventures of Phileas Fogg this magical boat ride which took passengers on a tour of the world, through many exciting scenes; each one a different country. The ride was quite popular
in it's time, but by 1994 when Talbot Street had been transformed into The Land Of Make Believe the ride needed a revamp and so the scenes were ripped out and replaced by a fun toy factory, known as Toyland Tours,
which followed exactly the same route as Around the World. The ride
system still exists within the park today, although heavily modified,
as the boat ride section of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
The countries visited in the ride
included: Burma, Egypt, New York, Venice, Green Land, Las Vegas, Holland, Rio, Paris
and of course London, the start of your voyage..
