Henry Hound
made a brief return to Alton Towers during the 2005 season,
having been in retirement since 1993. However Henry
isn't the only mascot Alton Towers has had over the years, several
cuddly characters have represented the park, and one or two not so
cuddly characters too.
Here we take a
look at some of the most popular mascots the park has seen.
While he has always been at Alton Towers Bunbury first met Henry
Hound in 1993 when he introduced the Land of Make Believe to the
park. He appeared on and off for many years, last appearing in
the 2001 fireworks display.
The
Count appeared alongside Henry Hound in several cartoons,
frequently playing tricks on the dog though always with good
intentions. He was prominent in the launch of the Haunted House
in 1992.
The
original Alton Towers mascots, these cartoon-like characters
spent many happy years entertaining the children around the
park, frequently appearing on Talbot Street, though sometimes
popping up on Towers Street.
Alton Towers famous mascot is descended from the famous Talbot
Hounds who appear on heraldry around the Towers. After being
absent for most on the '90s Henry returned to the Towers for the
2005 season.
Henrietta arrived at Alton Towers during the 1988 closed season.
She was once queen of the high wire in a travelling circus
and met her longstanding friend Henry when the circus came to
Alton Towers.
Pippin would drive round the park in his electric car, chatting
to guests and hosting his own radio show, Radio Pippin. He could
often be found driving around Towers Street or Fountain Square.
Along with his fired Geoff, Russell Crow introduces guests
to the park as they queue for the monorail. He is full of
information to help guests make the most of their day.
This
furry blue fellow took up residence in Towers Street when it
first opened in 1987. On his tricycle this highly sophisticated
robot would ride around chatting to passing guests.
When
Ug Land opened it was home to the Ug Family, who lived in
the Tree House at the centre. They would entertain the crowds
throughout the day performing shows alongside the Ug Fire
Engine.
Over
the years Alton Towers has seen many other mascots come and go,
some appear in the park itself, while others have appeared in
comics or guidebooks.
