Alton Towers Resort has received seven nominations in six categories for the ScareCON Scar awards, the annual awards which recognise and champion all aspects of the scare industry – from Halloween events, to year round scare attractions.

In the nominations for the 9th annual awards, which were revealed earlier today by ScareTour, the resort picked up nominations in the following categories:

• Best Halloween Scare Attraction – Sub Species: The End Games
• Best Original Concept and Design – Sub Species: The End Games
• Best Use of Multimedia – The Haunting of Molly Crowe web advertising
• Best Horror Themed Room Escape Adventure – Sub Species: Operation Lockdown
• Best Street Team Performers – Alton Ancestors
• Best Use of Animatronics/SFX as a Set Piece – The Alien – Sub Species: Then End Games & The Finale – The Haunting of Molly Crowe

These latest nominations follow on from a number of successes in previous years which have seen The Sanctuary win Best Seasonal/Halloween Attraction in 2013, the Alton Towers Hotel Scare Rooms win Best Overnight Scare Experience in 2014, and The Ultimate Sleepover retain the Best Overnight Scare Experience award for the resort in 2015. These latest nominations are a reflection of the overwhelmingly positive feedback Alton Towers Resort received for their revamped Scarefest in 2015, and are much deserved for the quality and high production values which were clearly evident across the scare mazes.

A number of other Merlin Entertainments attractions also feature in the nominations, with Thorpe Park Resort picking up three nominations; London Dungeons and Scream at Madame Tussauds picking up nominations for Best Year Round Scare Attraction; and Warwick Castle picking up a nomination for Best Educationally Scary Attraction for the Castle Dungeon.

Now in its ninth year, the SCAR awards are held annually by ScareCON in association with ScareTOUR (a site dedicated to providing independent reviews of scare attractions all over the world) and VenueMagic Show control. Held at a well-known attraction each year, the 2016 ScareCON event is due to be held at Dreamland Margate on Friday 13th May, and will bring together professionals from across the scare industry, including designers, owners, fans and experts.

Do you agree with this year’s SCAR nominations? Which were your best scare attractions of 2015? Have you say over on the Attraction Source Forum. TowersTimes wishes all the nominees good luck, and will be sure to bring you news of the winners when they are announced in May.
