Twas mid November, and TowersTimes Forum members were staying at the Alton Towers Hotel. Yet, the main bar within – lay silent and closed.  Why? Well, we’re pleased to say that eagle-eyed forum member ‘siralgenon’ has been finding out with a series of photos posted to our popular forums today!

The Dragon Bar serves a variety of global beers, refreshing cocktails and fine wines in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere on the ground floor of the Alton Towers Hotel.  Open from late morning until the dead of night, it’s one of the main focal points of the hotel, which has been open since 1996.  With guests purchasing their drinks before enjoying some live entertainment around the famous ship, the bar is popular with patrons of both hotels.

As part of the refurbishment, a trendy – but themed design has come in. A swanky set of new cream sofas, new theming set pieces on and below the bar, new lighting, new doors and a new floor have all resulted in this classic bar being given a new lease of life for the 2012 season.  Already open, the improvements don’t stop there.

The famous ship, which is found in the centre of the grand foyer at the Alton Towers Hotel – is also on the receiving end of some magic dust, with a paint job underway. In addition, a new entrance sign is in place for Splash Landings Hotel, after a refurbishment programme to the fountains and interior lobby took place earlier in 2011.

Here at TowersTimes, we are delighed to see work taking place to improve the hotels.  With some stiff competition in this area, especially following the rave reviews of the new Drayton Manor Hotel in Tamworth, it’s important that the resort work hard to keep the magic burning for both hotels.
