destination is fun for all aboard this rickety ride around Katanga
Canyon
The mine train was added to the park in 1992, when the new area of Katanga Canyon was introduced. It is a roller coaster which is powered along a steel track, made to look like wood. Through tunnels, past trees and near to water, it's fun from start to finish. At several times during the ride it comes close to the Rapids ride and often riders wave as they pass. Once the train has been around once it then
flies through the station and does another lap, this time a lot faster, especially in the final tunnel where a very tight corner puts you under a lot of force.
The average queue time for the Mine train is 15 minutes, however this passes fairly quickly because there is plenty of theming to see. The ride is suitable for most ages, but although it only goes 10metres a second it feels a lot faster with the wind in you face. Riders sit in pairs and the only thing to keep people safely strapped in is a lap bar.
In July 2006 the
Mine Train was closed after the front half of the train uncouple
from the back, which lead to the two halves crashing into one
another. Fortunately no one was seriously injured in the incident,
but it did lead to the ride have extensive downtime, not operating
again until April the following year.
